Genetic improvement of pecan (Carya
illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch) has
come a long way since William Nelson
first sold grafted pecan trees in New Orleans in 1879 (1). Currently the oldest continuous breeding program is that of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service.
This article reviews
the performance of one of its most successful cultivars.
