Citation
Abstract:
The second member of Virginia's
"Presidential Series" of peach varieties
was named and released by the
Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station
of Virginia Polytechnic Institute
on August 1, 1960. This new variety
was given the name Jefferson, in honor
of Thomas Jefferson, Virginia's second
contribution to the Presidency of
our Nation.
The name selected is in
accordance with the plan suggested
by Director H. N. Young of the Virginia
Agricultural Experiment Station,
that new varieties of peaches developed
in Virginia be named after
Virginians who were elected President
of the United States.
