Abstract:
The diversities of leaf characteristics were studied on leaf sizes, leaf colors, leaf shapes, and leaf surfaces for Hosta cultivars in the Beijing Botanical Garden. It showed that the leaf colors were mainly composed of 4 groups and 16 colors, including blue green group, green group, yellow green group and white group; without typical “blue” and “gold”; five leaf size types were contained with giant, large, medium, small and miniature; five leaf shapes were contained with strap shaped, lance shaped, ovate shaped, cordate shaped and round shaped; five leaf surface types were cupped-rugose, wavy-undulate, contorted, flatted and corrugated. These research results provided basic foundation for classification and breeding of Hosta cultivars.
