Abstract: In a previous experiment, metabolic inhibitors were used to study the respiratory pathways of the cultivated mushroom, Agaricus bisporus Both the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas pathway and the Krebs cycle were found operative in this fungus (Hou and Wu, 1972) However, the hexose monophosphate pathway (HMP) is generally believed more common in fungi such as Ustilago maydis (McKmsey, 1959), Penicillium charlesii (Bentley et al, 1962), Penicillium urticae (Bu'Lock et al, 1964) and spores of Tilletia contraversa (Newburgh and Cheldehn, 1959). In order to confirm our previous results, we further assayed the respiratory enzymes of Embden- Meyerhof-Parnas pathway and Krebs cycle in this paper. In addition, the enzymes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and phosphogluconate dehydrogenase were examined and the C6/C1 ratio was determined to clarify whether the HMP operates during the fruit body development of Agaricus bisporus.
