Title: The Comparison of Composts Made of Different Raw Materials for Volvariella volvacea
Authors: Kai-Jen Hu, Si-Fu Song and Ping Liu

Abstract:

Volvariella volvacea, a delicious food, was named "Chinese mushroom" by Dr. Chang Su-Ting. Its black variety has been used for many years but is not well accepted by some people. In our laboratory, we have found a white variety #308 which will be more acceptable on the international market. The compost used for culture of this white variety is rice straw, however, the recent experiment was to study other materials rich in cellulose for culture of the Chinese mushroom since rice straw is in short supply.
