Title: Reducing Mechanism of Plasma Cholesterol by Shii-ta-ke
Authors: S. Tokuda, A. Tagiri, E. Kano, Y. Sugawara, S. Suzuki, H. Sato and T. Kaneda

Abstract:

At the London's meeting in 1971, we reported that Shii-ta-ke, Lentinus edodes, could remarkably reduce plasma cholesterol levels in rats (KANEDA et al, 1964; TOKITA et al, 1971). Later the hypocholesterolemic substance was isolated from Shii-ta-ke by other Japanese workers and was named Eritadenine (CHIBATA et al, 1969; KAMIYA et al, 1969) (Fig. 1). However, no definite information is available on the plasma cholesterol reducing mechanism by Eritadenine or Shii-ta-ke.

An attempt has been made in the present study to elucidate the reducing mechanism of plasma cholesterol by Shii-ta-ke.
