Abstract: The fruit-body of Lentinus edodes, "Shii-ta-ke" has usually been cultured on the bed logs of Quercus acutissima, Q. serrata, Castanopsis cuspidata, and Carpinus spp., and fruits in spring and autumn, and to a lesser extent in summer. The author has undertaken a series of experiments for elucidating the conditions of the fruit-body formation on artificial media. The effects of light on mycelial growth, and the effects of temperature fall (25°C → 5-15°C) in the course of culture and of carbon-nitrogen ratio of media on fruiting were investigated, and the productivities for fruit-bodies will be compared among straines.
