Volume 8 Part 1 Article 52
Year 1972
Title: Mushroom Packaging in Switzerland
Author: J. Kuhn

Abstract:

Switzerland has a long-standing tradition of prepackaging. In 1970 mushroom production in Switzerland was 6 million lb, nearly 90% sold on the fresh market (about 5,5 million lb). Practically no fresh mushrooms were imported, but about 7,2 million lb of canned mushrooms are imported, mostly from Taiwan. Calculated on the basis of fresh mushrooms, this amounts to a yearly total consumption of 11 million lb or 1.8 lb per head per year. The average yearly increase of consumption during the last five years was 6% for fresh mushrooms and only 1.5% for canned mushrooms.
