Title: Temperature Variations in Air Shipment of Fresh Mushrooms in U.S.A.
Authors: W.T. Butz and D.R. Poorbaugh

Abstract:

The market for fresh mushrooms is becoming an increasingly important factor affecting the future of the mushroom industry. In response to increased competition from imported processed mushroom products, the industry has sought to strengthen demand by expanding the marketing area in which fresh mushrooms are distributed.

Air transport is the primary means of shipping fresh mushrooms to distant markets. Fresh mushrooms are extremely perishable and must be moved quickly through distribution channels. Development of new and distant markets for fresh mushrooms will depend in large measure on the quality of the product that can be made available to consumers in distant markets. Air transport presently offers the best potential for supplying distant markets with high quality produce.
