Abstract: Two auxotrophic mutants of the cultivated mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, have previously been produced by irradiating mycelial fragments ; one requires proline for normal growth, and the other adenine (Pelham, 1965). J.R. Raper and his colleagues at the Biological Laboratories of Harvard University have isolated a double mutant, requiring both adenine and histidine, along with some which have unknown requirements (Personal communication). Also working with the cultivated mushroom, the writer obtained some proline-less cultures without irradiation and some auxotrophs of unknown requirements.
