Title: Mechanical Harvesting of Mushrooms and its Implications
Author: S.P.E. Persson

Abstract:

The harvesting of the mushroom is the only remaining major operation m mushroom production which still is performed manually It was, therefore, natural that a major effort should be made to mechanize this operation when The Pennsylvania State University decided to apply the systems approach to a highly effective mushroom production system In line with the general philosophy of this approach, an advanced design was planned for the harvester.

Our work shows that mechanical harvesting of mushrooms seems feasible The transformation to full mechanization requires modifications, however, in the other operations of the production cycle as e g casing, tray design, harvesting intervals More knowledge must be collected about how the mushroom reacts under these new conditions.
