Abstract: The films showed the cultivation of the mushrooms Flammulina velutipes and Volvariella volvacea. These species are two of the seven cultivated in Japan; the others are Lentinus edodes, Pholiota nameko, Pleurotus ostreatus, P. cornucopiae and Auricularia polytricha. The annual production of Lentinus edodes, which is the largest of all, amounts to 120,000 tons, 40% of which are sold fresh and 60% dried. The annual production of Flammulina velutipes amounts to 10,000 tons. Cultivation and processing are carried out under the direction of the Mori Mushroom Research Institute.
