Abstract: In addition to the so-called "cultivated mushrooms" several wild mushroom strains are also playing a part in Hungarian mushroom growing. G. Bohus, I. Heltay and I. Wonnesch were the first in our country to take wild mushroom strains into cultivation (1). During their research work several new strains of higher productivity were produced from some wild growing mushroom forms. Prior to this - practically all over the world - new strains were produced exclusively by the selection and utilization of mutants appearing spontaneously in the cultivation. Though Wahl (5) published - already in 1950 - a very remarkable report, dealing with the study of bi-spored wild growing mushroom forms. By means of multispore- and tissue-cultures he proceeded also to artificial cropping in culture vessels from the collected material. He suggested, that knowing the physiology of the wild growing bi-spored mushroom new forms may possibly be drawn into cultivation. To our knowledge since then no further cultivation was undertaken on a larger scale.
