Abstract: All who have worked with manure for mushroom compost have long realized that it is a commodity with considerable variation. The three basic ingredients (i. e. the bedding material, urine, and the droppings) vary in quantity and quality from stable to stable and hence loads delivered to mushroom plants vary. Many growers try to blend loads to equalize manure containing more droppings with loads having an excess of bedding material. The bedding material usually is grain straw but frequently will have hay included. Wheat, rye, oats, and barley straw are used in bedding. Our observations on deliveries have been that wheat straw has been the bedding most frequently used.
