Year 1957
Title: Mushroom Growing in Britain
Author: G.W. Baker

Abstract:

Our pre-war production of mushrooms was 15 million lbs. It is now 40 to 45 millions lbs. The important point is that consumption has kept pace with production. We practice two systems, the traditional shelve method and trays. There seems to be a tendency to move towards the tray system, particularly among the large growers, as it lends itself to more mechanisation and with labour costs rising rapidly, considerable savings can be made by this method.
