Abstract: A. Preliminaries Although Hungarian mushroom-growing has a past of more than half a century, there was no organized, systematical research and experimental work to be recorded up to 1952. Barely any technical literature, at the most a couple of manuals and several papers of a practical character could be found on the subject. After the II. World-War the development of State-production and the necessity to increase the safety of reliably obtaining good crops demanded more and more imperatively that a research work should be instituted. In the meantime also the newest results realized abroad became known and did not fail to exercise a great stimulative effect.
