Volume 3 Part 1 Article 32
Year 1957
Title: The Growth Promoting Effect of Several Amino Acids on the Common Cultivated Mushroom
Author: I.M. Fraser

Abstract:

On a slight modification of the synthetic medium devised by Treschow (Dansk. Bot. Ark. 11 : 6, 1944), the growth of several strains of the white capped form of Psalliota bispora is promoted by the addition of yeast extract or acid hydrolysed casein. This effect can be reproduced by the addition of several amino acids along with thiamine. Phenylalanine and methionine are the most active when added alone with the exception of one strain which appears to possess practically an absolute requirement for proline. Other strains are promoted by proline while tryptophane and tyrosine show less significant activity.. Combinations of these amino acids produce greater growth promotion than any single one alone, the greatest effect being produced by a mixture of all five.
