Year 1957
Title: Experiences Connected with the Application of ¿Short¿ Composting under Conditions of Cellar-Cultivation without a Peak-Heating
Author: I. Heltay

Abstract:

In Hungary we were working up to 1955 exclusively with long composting. In the last years the following method was employed: piling, 3 turnings, the turnings arranged in 7 days intervals, and bedding on the 29th day after the piling.

The piling was carried out without any application of chemicals. On the first turning 3 kg of ammonium - sulphate were added, on the second turning no chemicals were applied, whilst on the third turning a quantity of 3 kg superphosphate was given per ton of manure. Before bedding the stacks were shaken into formless heaps, the manure within each stack was carefully mixed and during this operation 5 kg of gypsum were applied per ton. The quantities of the chemicals mentioned refer to fresh manure carried into the cellar. Dimensions of the stacks: 0,8-1 m height, 3-5 m width.
