Volume 3 Part 1 Article 23
Year 1957
Title: Size and Form in the Mushroom Sporophore (Psalliota hortensis)
Authors: D.G. Gandy and P.B. Flegg

Abstract:

During the past two years, an increasing number of reports have been received of misshapen mushrooms being produced on farms in Great Britain (Gandy 1955). This has been attributed to a variety of causes such as « La France » disease or physiological disorders. A number of such cases were inspected ant it was found, from the start, very difficult to describe the appearance of the sporophores in such a way that symptoms occurring on different farms at different times could be compared. A numerical definition of the various deformities was required, but before this could be done a « normal » sporophore had to be defined.
