Volume 3 Part 1 Article 22
Year 1957
Title: Size and Form in the Mushroom Sporophore (Psalliota hortensis)
Authors: P.B. Flegg and D.G. Gandy

Abstract:

The first reported investigations into the relationship between cap and stem diameter and cap diameter and height in agarics were carried out bylngold (1946) and Bond (1952). Their measurements were made from illustrations of mature sporophores of a large number of genera and species. For this reason their conclusions were general ones which would apply to all the species studied, species which differ widely in size and form.

The fact that large numbers of mushrooms are readily available affords the opportunity of a much closer study of the relationships as found in one species of agaric at all stages of sporophore development.
