Abstract: Formulations of two new fungicides, famoxadone and trifloxystrobin, were evaluated for the control of Verticillium fungicola (dry bubble pathogen) on Agaricus bisporus. The fungicides were used as drench applications and their activity for controlling dry bubble disease without a toxic side effect on the mushroom was studied. The fungicides were used at various rates as a single (after casing) and split application (after casing and at the end of the first flush) in the absence or presence of the pathogen. Noninoculated treatments receiving famoxadone or trifloxystrobin produced slightly higher overall biological efficiencies as well as yields at first flush than that of the control fungicide, prochloraz. For all fungicides, a single application (1.2 g active ingredient/m2) provided better disease control than a split application (0.6/0.6 g active ingredient/m2). Famoxadone was most effective against V. fungicola. Deformed mushrooms were observed in trifloxystrobin treatments, especially in the split application, suggesting that the A. bisporus was more sensitive to this compound than to the other fungicides.
