Abstract: We investigated the productivity of Agaricus blazei grown in substrates comprised of lignocellulosics residues [bagasse (Saccharum officinarum) and Brachiaria sp. straw] and different proportions of two nitrogen sources (soya bean meal and urea). Experiments involved a total of nine treatments, which were arranged in randomized blocks with a 3 x 3 factorial scheme consisting of three initial C/N ratios of 43/1, 37/1 and 33/1 and three soya bean meal/urea ratios of 4/1, 1.5/1 and 1/1.5. During harvest, biological efficiency, productivity and number and of mushrooms were determined. The results of the study suggested that for the same initial C/N ratio, substrate formulations containing higher proportions of urea were less productive, had lower biological efficiencies, and produced lower quality mushrooms later in the harvest cycle than formulations with lower levels of urea.
