Title: Sources of variations in the assessment of Agaricus bisporus susceptibility to brown blotch
Authors: M.L. Mamoun, F. Moquet, J.-M. Olivier and C. Devesse

Abstract:

Despite the standardization of a biological test previously proposed to assess susceptibility of Agaricus bisporus to brown blotch, unexpected variations remained in the mushroom response. Parameters of mushroom cultivation, especially compost quality, appeared of prime importance. Some variations related to the bacterium, as the shift between the pathogenic and the non-pathogenic form, cannot be controlled. Interactions were observed between the various parameters of the test (e.g. compost quality and A. bisporus strain). Sets of tests, keeping constant all parameters that can be controlled, were necessary to assess A. bisporus variability in susceptibility. The level of variation in susceptibility during a set of tests must be taken into consideration to characterize a mushroom strain. Results obtained after sets of tests were quoted as example of assessment of A. bisporus susceptibility.
