Title: Green mould disease in France: Trichoderma harzianum Th2 and other species causing damages on mushroom farms
Authors: M.L. Mamoun, R. lapicco, J.-M. Savoie and J.-M. Olivier

Abstract:

Green mould disease has been observed in Northern France in 1997 and in Valde- Loire in 1999. The causal agent was identified as Trichoderma harzianum Th2, the biotype responsible for the disease in Europe, but aggressive non-Th2 were also found. Trichoderma isolates collected from various diseased cultures exhibited significant differences in compost colonization ability and pathogenicity, with effects of variations in compost. Bacteria isolated from commercial compost showed some antagonism with Th2 and could be responsible for variations in Th2 competitivity. Agaricus bisporus strains (6 commercial, 25 wild and 6 hybrid) cultivated in compost contaminated with Th2 showed a wide range of susceptibility. A few strains appeared slightly susceptible but no absolute resistance was observed. Agaricus bisporus susceptibility varied with compost batches and Th2 isolates. No relationship was observed between mushroom cap color and susceptibility to green mould.
