Title: Distribution of the mating type alleles in a Greek population of Pleurotus ostreatus
Authors: I. Theochari and A. Nikolaou

Abstract:

The mating type alleles were determined by mating tests for a sample of seventeen wild isolates of Pleurotus ostreatus, originated from more or less distant localities. Di-monokaryon confrontations were also performed in order to determine the mating type genotypes of the parental nuclei. For the two incompatibility factors A and B we found 27 and 32 alleles respectively. Among them, 5 A alleles and 5 B alleles were redundant. The redundant alleles were more frequently found in near sites than in distant ones. Five B alleles did not exist in the parental isolates and four of them were detected for the first time in the population. Presumably they derived from recombination at the B locus. A considerable level of dikaryotization (Buller phenomenon) was noted between single spore isolates and parental and non parental strains in dikaryonmonokaryon confrontations. This mode of dikaryotization seems to occur in the studied sample.
