Abstract: Observations made in 1992 and 1993 in three mushroom houses near Warsaw have showed that Arctoseius semiscissus (Berlese 1892) (Acarina: Ascidae), foretic, predatory mite was very common. Laboratory experiments conducted on material collected there proved very high mortality rate among the eggs and larvae - the offspring of females covered by A.semiscissus. This mite probably has been the reason for almost entire disappearance of sciarids within the observation area.
