Title: Studies on breeding hybrid strain AS2796 of Agaricus bisporus for canning in China
Authors: Z.S. Wang, J.H. Liao, F.G. Li, Z.N. Chi and H.C. Wang

Abstract:

Using esterase isozyme as a genetic marker, some hybrid Fl progenies were obtained from 380 mating combinations which were made between homokaryotic cultures from the strains of high yield (type H) and those of good quality (type G). The hybrid F2 AS2796 with characteristics of high yield, good quality and heat resistance was selected from 2000 monospore cultures isolated from the Fl progenies. AS2796 has a typical heterozygous PAGE pattern, type HG4 of esterase isozyme, cultural behaviour similar to that of the parent 02(type H2) and can fruit even at 240C. Also, AS2796 showed good stability for five crops from 1990 to 1995 spread widely in China. Its average yield was 50-100% higher than that of the other parent 8213 (type Gl), furthermore, its quality of mushroom was equal to that of 8213 and up to the national canning standards.
