Title: Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) yield modelling for the bag method of mushroom production using commercial yields and from micro plots
Author: D.A. Seaby

Abstract:

Using a large number of commercial yields and analyses it was found that yield correlated sigmficantly with compost % dry matter, % nitrogen in dry matter and more strongly with their mathematical product (DM x N) However these correlations were increased in a stepwise manner, by setting an upper limit to DM, an upper limit to DM x N, and by systematically removing entire blocks of data in which there was evidence that yield might have been compromised by an external factor such as disease, or less than ideal growing conditions (i.e. during summer cropping) Comparing results from individual growers, showed their expertise had a major influence on both yield and predictability In a controlled experiment, in micro plots, casing type also affected yield At the end of this study it was noted that DM x N is equal to percent nitrogen on a wet weight basis times 100.
