Abstract: Hybridizations between 30 Hind III inserts, of an A. aegerita mt DNA bank and total DNA digested by Hind III or Hae III, led to evidence of rearrangements in this molecule. Some of them revealed Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms (RFLPs) in 36 wild strains. These RFLPs were demonstrated to be due to point and length mutations, and located in two independant polymorphic regions: one carrying the Cox I, Atp 6, Atp 8 genes, and the other the Cox II gene. Beside those rearrangements revealed in 36 strains, two rearranged fragments were found in the mt DNA bank of one wild strain studied. Those fragments could be generated by intramolecular rearrangements between two adjacent mitochondrial fragments for one of them, and two distant ones (7,8 kbp) for the other. Such events were both located in the region of the molecule containing the S-rDNA.
