Abstract: Methods to test the efficacy of a number of Bacillus thuringiensis isolates for the control of the mushroom sciarid Lycoriella auripila, were employed in the laboratory and in mushroom croppmg chambers. A rapid water bioassay was used to ascertain the potential of a large number of isolates. A second laboratory pot test was used to confirm the potency of isolates. Results from the laboratory experiments were assessed in order to promote the most active isolates to full testing in a mushroom croppmg chamber. The series of bioassay techniques employed gave a progression of tests which rapidly identified L.auripila-active isolates from a large number of initial isolates.
