Title: Yield Stimulation of Pleurotus Flabellatus by Dual Nutrient Supplementation of Pasteurized Wheat Straw
Authors: D.J. Royse and S.A. Zaki

Abstract:

Supplementation of pasteurized (2hr at 60°C) wheat straw with commercial nutnent supplements alone or in combination stimulated yield and biological efficiency (BE) of Pleurotus flabellatus (pmk basidiocarp) A combination of Spawn Mate IIŪ and Fast BreakŪ at 84g each per kg dry wheat straw gave a yield of 6 7kg/m3 and a BE of 77 7% over a 28-day harvest period Nonsupplemented substrate produced a yield of 1 7 kg/m2 and a BE of 22 8% Both supplements used together gave a significantly higher yield than either supplement used alone Substrates supplemented only with Spawn Mate IIŪ (168g/kg dry substrate) produced a yield of 5 8kg/m2 and a BE of 67 3% while substrates supplemented only with Fast BreakŪ (168g/kg dry substrate) produced a yield of 0 2kg/m2 and a BE of 2 2% Use of Fast BreakŪ only at the higher rate (168g/kg dry substrate) resulted in excessive over heating of the substrate and heat injury to the mushroom mycelium.
