Abstract: Ganoderma lucidum has been increasingly receiving public attention among Asians due to its pharmaceutical properties. The pattern of sexuality was investigated for further selection and improvement of strains. The spores of G. lucidum which are usually difficulty to germinate, were stimulated by certain yeast and bacteria and produced monosporous cultures fron the native strain MU220. From 91 mating pairs of monokaryotic cultures, the ratio of compatibility: incompatibility was 1 : 3, which indicated the bifactorial mating type with a tetrapolar mechanism. Most of the hybrids were able to fruit when cultivated in sawdust bags. The basidiocarps were similar to the parent but abnormal fruiting bodies were also observed. The monokaryotic fruiting of G. lucidum was significantly noted.
