Abstract: In the oyster mushroom production fungicides are very often used in order to protect the substrate against competitive moulds (Trichoderma sp., Aspergillus sp., Fusarium sp. etc.). However up to this day very little informations are available about a side-effect of fungicide application to the yield and fruitbody quality. Three fungicides (Benlate, Fermenter Forte and Sportak Alpha) were taken into consideration and mixed into the substrate soak water in five concentrations. Unprepared wheat straw was used as basic material in order to avoid possible partial degradation of the fungicides. Fungicide treatments influenced positively the mycelial growth of Pleurotus and increased the yield in several variations significantly. The differences concerning the stem ratio of fruit bodies found were not significant and similar results were also obtained regarding fruitbody disorders. Therefore the use of the above mentioned fungicides can be recommended for commercial Pleurotus cultivation. Neither a yield restriction nor the appearing of fruitbody deformations have to be expected. As a pathogen of the bacterial blotches of Pleurotus spp. Pseudomonas fluorescens has been identified.
