Abstract: The decrease of water during phase II, spawn run and cropping of A. bisporus has been quantified under various growing conditions and the impact on mushroom production was checked. Moisture content of the compost, nature of the bed base under the compost and quantity of water sprayed on the casing soil were the factors involved. During phase II, a closed bed base has a negative effect, but increases yield if applied after spawning. Data, collected on closed bed bases are discussed, to explain the effect on yield and mushroom quality.
