Abstract: Acellulolytic strains of Pleurotus ostreatus were obtained as an approach for a complete utilization of lignocellulosecs Procedures for mutation with MNNG and charactenzahon of (C-) strains were optimized A modified 2 layer cellulose medium and a newly developed paper-peptone agar test were used together to identify acellulolytic strains A (C-) mutant was paired with a "wild type" monocaryon, and while mutation with MNNG produced (C-) strains very seldom (0 001%), acellulolytic monocaryons were recovered with a much higher frequency (3.3%) among the progeny of the (C-) mutant Progeny analysis proved that 5 genes control the (C-) character in mutant 56HINI
