Abstract: In the Agaricale Agrocybe aegerita, fruiting from homokaryotic strains results in the differentiation of three types of fruit bodies. The first type (abortive homokaryotic fruiting: AHF) is differentiated from typical homokaryotic mycelia and gives abortive fruit bodies which never open nor sporulate. The second type (true homokaryotic fruiting: THF) arises also from typical homokaryotic myceUa, but yields well-developed fruit bodies with a reduced sporolation; no segregation of incompatibüity alleles was observed in the progenies through this type of fruiting. The third type (pseudo-homokaryotic fruiting: PHF) is differentiated from primary homokaryotic myceUa which have become spontaneously dikaryotic (hyphae bearing clamp connections), and is constituted by weU-developed fruit bodies with an abuódant sporulation. In all the progenies deriving from this last type of fruiting, four incompatibüity groups were identified, resulting from the occurrence of new alleUc specificities at both the loci A and B. Crosses between homokaryotic strains of each fruiting type would indicate that AHF and THF have different genetic determinisms.
