Abstract: Species of Pleurotus are well known edible fungi and are gaining popularity not only in India but also in South East Asian, Eastern and West European countries. Pleurotus has already been established as a new commercial mushroom in Taiwan (Jong and Peng, 1975) and Italy (Edwards, 1977). In India, the diverse agroclimatic conditions and easy availability of agricultural, forestry, household and industrial wastes as well as low cost labour, have provided a stimulus for the cultivation of some Pleurotus species, particularly P. sajor-caju (Jandaik and Kapoor, 1976). The present paper aims at providing some information about cultivation of P. cystidiosus in India and it is hoped that this will form a useful guide for those who may wish to cultivate it in this country.
