Abstract: Wild oyster mushroom has long been used as food but its artificial cultivation is relatively a recent innovation. First record of oyster mushrooom cultivation comes from early 20th century when Falck (1917) used tree stumps for its cultivation. Bano and Srivastava (1962) first time reported commercial cultivation of oyster mushroom on straws. Khan et al. (1981) studied the yield performance of four strains of Pleurotus including P. sajor-caju and found significant yield difference among these strains. Keeping in view the natural suitability of temperature and availability of Swat valley, this experiment was performed to introduce its cultivation on wood logs like shiitake mushroom so that it should be started as cottage industry in this area to get the perennial crop.
