Abstract: In the f)ark of the former Batthyany-castle in Körmend (in tlie west of Hungary) there is a memorial with a Hungarian inscription: "Carolus CLUSIUS (1526- 1609). The outstanding botanist of the 16th century – obtained the support of B. BATTHYANY (1538-1590), the excellent Hungarian aristocrat and military leader – between 1573-88 he travelled all over Vas County. In his scientific research I. BEYTHE (1532-1612) a priest and botanist rendered help to him. The friendship of the three men was the starting point in the research of Hungarian flora and for the scientific investigation of mushrocms."
