Abstract: Certain double-stranded (ds) RNAs of natural and synthetic origin have been found to inhibit growth of various transplanted tumors or leukemias in animals (1-4) . In recent years (5), it has been reported that the ds-RNA fraction extracted from fruit bodies or spores of Lentinus edodes was effective against influenza virus infection in mice as an interferon inducer. In previous reports (6,7,8) we have purified and characterized in part two kinds of spherical (S) and filamentous (F) particles from L. edodes. The present study describes antitumor activities of the purified virus-like particles (VLPs) and ds-RNA extracted from S particles on Ehrlich ascites tumor in mice.
