Year 1989
Title: The Use of Statistical Process Control on the Mushroom Farm
Authors: P.J.C. Vedder and C.R. Waldron, Jr.

Abstract:

In order to be competitive and profitable in the long range, the commercial mushroom grower must maintain a high level of productivity requiring constant attention by the manager/grower. Both the quality and quantity of the product are influenced by a number of factors: compost quality, strain characteristics, growing procedures, and harvesting techniques to mention only a few. Each of these factors can be further divided into several components; compost quality, for example, is a function of the quality of the ingredients, nitrogen content, moisture level, degree of degradation, pH, etc.
