Year 1989
Title: The Development of High-Quality Inoculamts from Spent Compost
Authors: Nita Bahl, M. Gupta and K.S. Jauhri

Abstract:

Mushroom cultivation is practiced on large scale in parts of India. After the harvest of edible mushrooms, a large quantity of spent compost is made available. This carbonaceous residual compost has been found to support growth of Rhizobium and Azotobacter (Bahl and Jauhri, 1987). In view of its availability and low cost this spent compost can probably be used as carrier material in preparation of bio-inoculants.

The present investigation deals with mixing up of finely powdered charcoal with spent compost, with a view to improve longevity of bacteria.
