Title: Supplementation at Casing with Keratine Protein and Corngluten
Authors: A. Overstijns and L. Bockstaele

Abstract:

Supplementation at casing with some protein rich vegetable products such as soya bean meal can considerably increase the production of mushrooms. In practice however, it often increases the risk of crop failure, in consequence of heat production and weed moulds in the compost.

This research concerning supplementation aimed at more crop-security. For this purpose corn protein was modified in order to obtain a slow release effect and to optimize the granular composition. At the same time several keratine proteins were examined. Especially the influence on the production, the quality of the mushrooms and on the compost temperature was traced.
