Year 1989
Title: Spore Germination in Agaricus bisporus
Authors: E.M. Goltapeh and J.N. Kapoor

Abstract:

It is a common observation that the spores of Agaricus bisporus mushroom do not germinate readily under controlled laboratory conditions and this has presented many difficulties in investigations on mushroom genetics and breeding. However, there are divergent claims by workers about percentage spore germination in white button mushroom ranging from 1 to 95 % (Kehl 1943, Losel 1964, Stanek 1959, Mcteague et al 1959). The present investigation was undertaken to find out a suitable method for quick spore germination in Agaricus bisporus under laboratory conditions.
