Title: Cultivation of Pleurotus sajor-caju (Fr.) Sing. Mushroom
Author: R.P. Singh

Abstract:

A major advance in plant science today is the development of cultivation techniques for edible fungi and mushrooms which are important and rich sources of vegetable protein and mineral salts. The emphasis in India so far, has been on the cultivation of temperate or white button mushrooms. However, the greater part of this country comes under sub-tropical regions and ample potential exists for cultivation of sub-tropical mushrooms suited to these areas.

Amongst the various sub-tropical mushrooms tried, Pleurotus sajor-caju has been found to grow well under natural conditions during the winter months in the plains of Uttar Pradesh, India. The results obtained on the effect of temperature, humidity, different spawning methods and cultivation techniques on the yield of Pleurotus sajor-caju are reported in this paper.
