Title: Wilthin Effective in Thinning Mississippi Apples
Authors: E. Ansari, F.B. Matta and L.A. Khan
Abstract:
'Royal Gala', 'Ultra Gold', and 'Blushing Golden' on M7A were treated two years with Wilthin
(monocarbamide dihydrogensulfate) at 0 ml∙l-1, 5 ml∙l-1, 10 ml∙l-1 and 15 ml∙l-1 when trees were at
70 to 80 percent bloom.
Wilthin at 5 ml∙l-1 and 15 ml∙l-1 resulted in satisfactory thinning of all cultivars.
Yield was not affected as a result of thinning with Wilthin.
Fruit weight and size were increased,
firmness and individual sugars were increased, acidity was reduced, and juice pH was increased as a result of thinning with Wilthin.
