Abstract:
Fruit firmness is one of the most important characteristics of apple quality and therefore, obtaining and maintaining apple fruit firmness from the orchard through to the consumer tends to be one of the major issues facing the industry. Apple fruit firmness tends to be influenced greatly by many preharvest factors, such as genetics, cultural practices, and the applications of fertilizers or growth regulators. In addition, many postharvest factors have an enormous effect on apple firmness, such as maturity at harvest, cooling, postharvest dips, and storage conditions.
