Title: 'Enterprise' and 'GoldRush,' Two New Disease-Resistant Cultivars

Abstract:
'Enterprise' and 'GoldRush' are two new apple cultivars, the eighth and ninth releases derived from a coopera tive apple breeding program involving Purdue University, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and the University of Illinois. Each contains the Vf gene for scab resistance derived from Malus floribunda 821. Both new cultivars are late maturing, with excel lent texture and exceptionally good storage life. These two apples repre sent a significant advance in fruit qual ity combined with good storage ability over present late-maturing diseaseresistant cultivars. Patent protection is being pursued.
