Abstract:
World apple production has increased markedly in the past decade.
All major production
areas of the southern hemisphere except Australia have increased their apple production.

dramatic increase in apple plantings has occur
red in New Zealand. 'Granny Smith,' 'Cox's Orange Pippin,' 'Delicious' and 'Golden Delicious'
are the leading cultivars in that country. 'Gala,'
'Fuji,' 'Braeburn' and spur 'Delicious' trees were
heavily planted during the 1980's, while processing cultivars such as Stunner Pippin' were declining in New Zealand.
