Abstract:
The beginning and duration of full
bloom were recorded in April 1963,
for varieties in the pear collection at
the Horticultural Farm of Purdue University,
Lafayette, Indiana.
These
dates, shown in Table 1, present the
interval between 95 percent full
bloom and petal fall.
Full bloom was
considered the period when approximately
70 percent of the blossoms
were open, Full bloom for 'Bartlett'
occurred from April 24-28. The data
indicates that the period of bloom for
many of these varieties coincided with
Bartlett, and, consequently, might be
satisfactory pollinators for 'Bartlett'.
However, pollen compatibility was not
evaluated.
